The strategic mission of the Centres for Open Education is to promote the spread of the Russian language and strengthen its position as a language of international communication. The Centres' effective functioning fosters a sustainable interest in Russia and Russian education while expanding opportunities for foreign citizens to study the Russian language and culture abroad.
Pursuant to the directive of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, since 2024 the federal operator of this network has been the My History Foundation for the Support of Humanitarian Sciences.
The My History Foundation for the Support of Humanitarian Sciences, with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, is implementing a project to develop a comprehensive network of Centres for Open Education in the Russian Language and Russian Language Teaching Abroad (COE). The project aims to increase interest in the Russian language, strengthen its global standing, and expand international and humanitarian ties. This initiative has already reached 70 countries across the CIS, Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.
